CLdN has introduced the first fully electric four-wheel-drive Terberg RT253EV Tugmaster into its Ro-Ro operations at the Port of Zeebrugge, marking an important milestone in the evolution of zero-emission terminal equipment for the maritime logistics industry.
CLdN is one of Europe’s largest short-sea shipping and integrated logistics operators, providing RoRo shipping, terminal handling and multimodal transport services through a network of more than 30 vessels and 15 ports across Europe.
The vehicle entered service on 29 July 2026 and is supporting CLdN’s daily ferry operations between Zeebrugge and the United Kingdom.
Designed specifically for demanding Ro-Ro applications, the electric Tugmaster delivers the power and traction required to tow heavy trailers up vessel ramps while producing zero tailpipe emissions, reducing noise levels and improving operator comfort.
A significant step for a specialist market
The global market for four-wheel-drive Ro-Ro terminal tractors is highly specialised, with only a handful of manufacturers producing equipment capable of meeting the demands of ferry and port operations. As the leading global manufacturer of Ro-Ro terminal tractors, Terberg’s introduction of a fully electric 4×4 Tugmaster represents a significant advancement for operators looking to reduce emissions without compromising performance.
The RT253EV features a transmission-free electric drivetrain with regenerative braking technology, improving energy efficiency while helping to reduce brake wear and maintenance requirements. It also builds on more than a decade of Terberg’s experience in electric terminal tractor development.
Initially, the RT253EV will operate alongside CLdN’s existing diesel fleet, allowing both companies to evaluate the performance of electric four-wheel-drive terminal tractors in one of the most demanding operating environments within the Ro-Ro sector. The deployment forms part of CLdN’s wider fleet renewal and decarbonisation programme as the company continues investing in more sustainable logistics solutions.
