Paterson Simons engineers have successfully completed specialised Professional Crane Inspection (PCItraining on Konecranes Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs) and Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHCs).

The programme began with two days of online training delivered from Konecranes training centre in Düsseldorf, led by Marvin Jenneman.

The sessions introduced the core principles of the ‘Crane Inspection’ service product, outlining the role and responsibilities of a PCI Inspector, key requirements for customer communication, and a full overview of the PCI process.

Day two focused on the practical tools required for effective inspections, including the use of manual reporting forms, structured checklists, and the digital Inspection App used to standardise and streamline reporting.

This was followed by hands-on practical training in Europe, where engineers applied their knowledge in real-world port environments.

Training took place in Zeebrugge in Belgium, with a focus on Mobile Harbour Cranes, led by trainer Matthias Pehl, and in Gdansk in Poland, where the team gained practical experience working with RTGs, led by trainer Tuomas Kivistö.

By completing both the theoretical and practical components of the programme, Paterson Simons engineers are now equipped to carry out certified Konecranes PCI inspections independently. This enhanced capability supports improved service delivery, increased operational reliability, and greater customer confidence across port and terminal operations in the region.

The benefits of having a PCI inspection include improved safety and operational uptime through early detection of potential issues, independent structured reports with clear recommendations, local execution with OEM oversight delivering cost savings, and a clearer view of crane condition to support better asset lifecycle management. PCI inspections also support compliance and audit readiness.

Where repairs are identified, PSAL can additionally provide the required repair support – offering customers a convenient one-stop solution. To request a quote or learn more, please contact: service@patersonsimons.com

As ports continue to prioritise safety, compliance, and uptime, the ability to deliver certified inspections locally reinforces Paterson Simons role as a trusted technical partner – providing not only equipment, but the expertise required to keep it performing at its best.

Congratulations to the participants and thank you to trainers  Marvin Jenneman, Matthias Pehl and Tuomas Kivistö!
