Sabodala mine in Senegal is benefitting from used lifting equipment that Paterson Simons supplied to the mine earlier this year. The mine is currently undergoing an expansion project. Paterson Simons supplied the following used equipment to Sabodala earlier this year:
- 1 x GMK5250L 250T Grove All Terrain Crane
- 1 x GMK5110-1 – 110T Grove All Terrain Crane
- 1 x Grove RT880E – 80T Rough Terrain crane
- 1 x Grove RT530E 30T Rough Terrain crane
Both the Grove Rough Terrain and All Terrain mobile cranes are performing very well for Sabodala and carrying out essential work that is taking place on the mine site. Grove Rough Terrain Mobile Cranes are extremely versatile machines and can be seen working all over West Africa.
The patented Megatrak suspension technology means that the GMK All Terrain crane is well-suited to tough West African conditions. This unique suspension design allows Grove’s All Terrain cranes outstanding stability and ground clearance.

Sabodala-Massawa is the largest producing gold mine in Senegal, West Africa. In March 2020, Sabodala acquired the Massawa gold project, the largest undeveloped open-pit project in Africa to create the Sabodala-Masswa complex.
Paterson Simons provides reliable used equipment solutions to our diverse clients and partners in West Africa. All Terrain cranes are sourced from a Manitowoc Crane site in Germany. After checks are made and all faults removed, additional oil coolers and sometimes larger tyres are fitted to help dissipate heat. Sometimes additional safety features are fitted too and lifting gear and outrigger pads offered to encourage good practice. For Rough Terrain cranes, Paterson Simons work with partner dealers as 3rd party inspectors, to gauge the quality and integrity of the machinery before sale.
