MPS, Ghana: RTGs Delivered and Assembled

In News by Alisa Evans

Konecranes recently delivered nine Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes to Meridian Port Services who operate a terminal within the Port of Tema in Ghana. Four of the cranes arrived fully assembled, and Paterson Simons is currently assembling the remaining five in partnership with a team of international engineers. The project is due to be completed in early July 2013.

The RTGs will increase the Port’s storage capacity by 25%. Additional benefits include an impressive stacking ability (7 deep and 5 high, with a drive lane), a variable speed engine, auto steer capacity which ensures cranes run along a pre-programmed route and a DPGS which automatically locates the required container via satellite, with 100% accuracy.

The addition of these RTG cranes to Tema will undoubtedly improve the Port’s turn-around time and therefore its competitiveness.
