A while back we wrote about the new SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) regulations, which require shippers to provide a VGM (Verified Gross Mass) to carriers, prior to any ladened container being loaded onto a vessel. This means that ports across the globe have been moving swiftly to install weighing systems in order to comply. Konecranes have developed a bespoke weighing system for their SMV range of reachstackers, that make container weighing a simple, and efficient process - requiring no additional stops or steps in the handling sequence.
With 1% full scale accuracy, the reachstacker can provide a VGM within 5 seconds.
Paterson Simons customer, the Bolloré-managed terminal in Cameroon, recently opted for the Konecranes Static Weighing System with their latest ordered reachstacker, a SMV 4531TC5. The reachstacker arrived ready to assemble in July and was fully asembled by the first week of August.
Gordon Condie, Paterson Simons Regional Service Manager, said of the sale, "The build-quality of the machines, combined with Paterson Simons's reliable support and service network, have once again meant customers get world-class quality plus manufacturer-accredited support and maintenance 24/7."
